FRIENDS of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia

“The children love attending the Back to School Bash. It is a chance for siblings who may be placed in separate foster homes to spend time together in a festive, fun-filled atmosphere. It takes the burden off of caretakers who are worried about how they will pay for school supplies. It is a happy day for children who have had too many sad ones.”
Beverly Gibbs, Social Worker
Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect

Held the week before school starts in August, Friends invites children in foster care to a party to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year. This past year, Friends hosted 75 children and their caretakers at an event that included a DJ, face painting, crafts, pizza and ice cream. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, each child left with a backpack filled with new school supplies.
